Baby Room

Posted on

With Baby J’s arrival quickly approaching, I really wanted to finish up little things in her room that she’ll be sharing with her big sister. It makes me smile when I think that the Little One, who just turned 2, will be a big sister soon. I bought her a shirt that says “Big Sister In Charge” from Old Navy the other day. And it’s like she knew what it said because she cried when I told her she couldn’t wear it and had to wait.

A while back I found the Little One the perfect toddler bed. I wanted to do this as soon as possible to prevent meltdowns for when the baby takes over her crib. And the transition has been pretty smooth. So we recently put the side rail back on the crib, and completed it with all the trimmings. And when I say we, I mean she and I (the Little One). She’s my little project helper now.

Afterwards we both sat on the floor and admired our work. Then we talked about how she was going to help with the new baby. Most of it I didn’t understand, but I did make out that she plans on putting chocolate milk in her bottle.

So here’s a couple of pics for a look of the room,

along with little sweet things that make me smile.

P.S.  since taking these pics, we’ve moved the room around a bit more (I told you that I REALLY have a thing about moving furniture).

….look good this pregnant?

We have a few really big things going on here at our house. The baby is now only 5 weeks away! At times it seems impossible that I’ll make it that far, but other times it feels as if…….well, who am I kidding! I’m tired! And ready! So it’s pretty hard not to be consumed of thoughts of the baby.

However, more pressing than the arrival of Baby J (at least for right now) is the arrival of her Daddy! He’s been away at work, and when I say away, I mean away as in clearly on the other side of the globe. His work for the last couple of years has kept him away from home for months at a time, but we’re finally able to take a break. And he really deserves it. I’m so grateful to have a husband who works so hard to provide for his family.

With that being said, it leaves me with the million dollar question: What to wear when I pick him up from the airport?! Really! Lately if it fits, I’ll wear it. Not much thought goes into how cute my outfit is nowadays. Just “does it cover my gut?” So I’m in search to find the perfect outfit that’s comfortable enough for a 4+ hour car drive, but also says “Yes, I am with the handsome buff guy”.

So here’s a few of my options that I have about a week to find. Yeah, I know, but I always tell myself that I work well under pressure.

I always think pregnant women look great and effortless chic in these long and flowy summery dresses. BUT I’ve tried on a couple and always ended up looking like I had on the perfect outfit to hide contraband, like on an episode of “Locked up abroad”. (I love that show, but hate the look on me)

Look 2:

This casually cool look with wide legged jeans looks really comfortable. But actually finding these jeans will probably pose a problem because finding regular jeans is hard enough. If I can’t find them I could always TRY wearing a pair of my pre pregnancy jeans with my belly band, with a bright tank and light cardigan.

Look 3:via

Another pretty laid back look, leggings and a simple but cute top.

So these are the looks and options I’m going for. Wish me luck.

Banana Bread

Cavendish bananas are the main commercial bana...

Summer is a great time for fresh fruit. And we love bananas in this house. Whenever I go to the grocery store and they have the almost over ripe bananas marked down it’s like they’re calling me. They’re great for baking. So this weekend we bought a couple of pounds. We usually cut up a few and freeze for smoothies. The rest we used for our world-famous banana bread. I started making it awhile ago and haven’t stopped since then.  These are great for dessert, snacks, or breakfast. It’s really easy to make and I hope you’ll try out the recipe. Enjoy.

Banana bread recipe

4 ripe bananas (about 2 cups)

2 eggs (slightly beaten)

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 1/2 cups brown sugar

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon salt

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line muffin pans with paper liners/Grease disposable loaf pans with butter.

2. In a medium bowl mash bananas. Mix in one at a time, water, brown sugar, oil, then eggs.

(the Little One helping out )

3. In a second  bowl combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.

4. Fold dry ingredients into the banana mixture until just combined.

5. Scrape batter into pans.

Bake until golden brown. About 45 minutes for muffins, about 50 minutes for loaf. Or until toothpick inserted into middle comes out clean.

Recipe makes approximately 24 muffins, or 2 loaves and easily doubles. The bread also freezes well. (although it’s so good it won’t stay in the freezer for long!)

She loves me….She loves me not….

Can’t you tell a lot about a person by their likes and dislikes? Or is that like judging a book by its cover? Either way, here’s a few random things about yours truly.

I Love…..

  • catching a sale
  • googling all of life’s many mysteries
  • diy projects
  • daydreaming
  • spending the $ I’ve saved on a sale
  • Antique Roadshow (don’t judge me)
  • yard sales (there’s something about checking out other people’s stuff that intrigues me)
  • the As-IS section
  • rearranging our furniture (to my husband’s annoyance)

I Hate

  • not being able to see my feet (I’m 8 1/2 months pregnant)
  • mopping
  • asking for help
  • putting away white clothes (damn socks)
  • prep work
  • being the last to know (but it pays to be married to the coolest man in America)
  • reading the instructions
