It’s Summer!!!

Posted on

It’s summertime!!! Well maybe not officially, but it’s already summer around here!  The kids have been out of school for three weeks already. And somehow I’ve managed to get the “OMG, I’m so bored” look only once or twice, though I’m sure they do it all the time as soon as I turn my back.

Is she bored?!

So here’s a little of what we’ve been up to and planning to do to keep the boredom at bay:

  • Practice driving (for Monkey) yes, driving … as in a vehicle. A real one!
  • Go roller skating
  • Mastering potty training (for the Little One finally)
  • Go to the movies
  • Try new recipes
  • Teach the Little One to ride her bike
  • Bowling
  • Catch up on reading
  • Swimming

Kids in the summer time definitely aren’t cheap. Here’s a few tips to help entertain on a budget.

  1. Go skating on family night. Pay a flat rate to include skates for the whole family. Plus the family atmosphere is way better than going on days when you’d get ran over by the Speed Devil skating backwards to BBD. Well…. except if that’s you….
  2. Go to the dollar movies. Actually, it’s $1.99 in our area!  But they show a good variety of movies that are fairly recent.
  3. If you’d rather curl up at home with a movie, hit up a RedBox.

They’re easy, convenient and everywhere. Plus it’s way cheaper than using On-Demand on your cable. AND I just read a post that claims that you can get it for free. Yeah, free.  I found the info here. However, I haven’t tried it yet. I’ll update you guys when I do.

  4. Go to a matinee for new releases.  You can save about $2.50, PER PERSON! Who cares if the sun is still out!
  5. Purchase a family pass for a neighborhood pool or water park.
  6. Most libraries have tons of summer activities. Involve your kids before they’re too cool to want to participate. They also have summer reading programs that rewards free treats and great offers. Reading = Free ice cream          Everyone wins. :)
  7. Like bowling? AMF bowling is offering FREE bowling for kids 15 and under ALL summer.

Here’s the link. You sign up and they will email you a weekly voucher that’s good for 2 games per day for each kid! For the rest of the family, they offer a great one time flat rate for the entire summer.

To further keeps costs down, always feed the kiddos before you leave the house. If not, stomachs will growl in unison upon passing the nearest fast food joint!

Hope this helps to keep a little cash in your pockets. Any ideas or tips that work for you? Pass them along!
